MUSAC. Castile-León Museum of Contemporary Art

Five exhibition halls, a project hall, an auditorium, a teaching workshop, a library, and a retail area are the most important spaces in the Castile-León Museum of Contemporary Art (MUSAC), an original building in the shape of a cube, designed by the architects Emilio Tuñón and Luis Moreno. This large area, with over 21,000 square metres devoted to culture, is intended to emphasise the shared interest of art and architecture in contemporary expression. Vestibules, mezzanine floors and courtyards are especially important in this building’s white concrete interior, while the multicoloured façade recalls the stained glass windows of León Cathedral.

This large exhibition space works to bring the wide range of items on display as close as possible to the present, engaging the viewer completely and enabling a sort of dialogue with the works of art. MUSAC also wants to highlight the uncertainties and contradictions that arise every day in the world of art. Part of this is its support for innovative projects and for artistic creation across disciplines.
