Alcántara Bridge

Over the River Tajo, the Roman Tagus Aurifer, It linked Roman Caceres with the lands of the Beira Alta region in Portugal. It dates from the 2nd century AD. It measures some 194m long and 71m high. and is formed by six semicircular arches. In the centre of the bridge, an arch made in honour of the Emperor Trajan is preserved. At the main entrance stands a stone niche where the name of the building, Gaius Iulius Lacer, can be read.
