Quest for the great bustard - World´s heaviest flying bird
The itinerary, starting from Toledo City, will lead us to the surrounding cerealistic steppes, a Natura2000 Special Protection Area for Birds, where flocks of more than 400 Great bustards inhabit. The heaviest flying bird in the world, able to reach 18 kg of weight, and 2,5 m of wingspan, shows its spectacular courtship display at the beginning of spring. Beside them, would be possible to observe other typical species, such as Western marsh and Montagus harriers, Eurasian and Lesser kestrels, and if we´re lucky, the evasive Pin-tailed and Black-bellied sandgrouses or the more and more scarce Little bustard. The landscape, stripped by riverbanks and hillside forests will also amaze us with other prey birds: kites, buzzards and, even, the magnificent Imperial eagle.
