Guided Visit to the Archive of the Indies
Discover in a unique way the General Archive of the Indies of Seville. The Casa de la Contratación de Indias, established in Seville in 1503 by Isabel la Católica to promote and regulate trade and navigation with Spanish territories overseas, makes Seville obtain the monopoly with the New World.Attracted by those ships that come and go from the Port of Seville, merchants crowd the city doing business with products from the New World. Due mainly to a conflict between the Cathedral Council and the Municipal Council, Felipe II would approve the construction of the Casa Lonja de Mercaderes in Seville in 1582. It is a building, therefore, exclusive for the merchants who until then traded on the steps of the Cathedral. We are, therefore, before a monument of great importance to understand the Golden Age of this city, and which has subsequently sheltered different institutions from the 16th to the present: Casa Lonja de Mercaderes, Academia de Bellas Artes (founded among others by Murillo), neighborhood house. But there is nothing that lasts forever and due to the loss of the Sevillian monopoly in the trade of the Indies, in 1785 it became the largest documentary and archival center of the relationship between Spain and Seville with the territories of America and the Pacific: the General Archive de Indias, listed as World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987.Are you really going to miss this complete Guided Tour?
