  1. Santiago de Compostela

    This is great option for your time in Spain –either as a way of sightseeing, for spiritual reasons, or because you're interested in learning more about the culture, gastronomy and landscapes of northern Spain.     If you prefer the south, the warm weather and the sea, why not spend some time in Almería (Andalusia)? All around the province you'll find wonderful beaches surrounded by a desert landscape reminiscent of the scenery in Westerns. In Cabo de Gata you'll find towns like San José, and secluded coves like San Pedro, and an extremely open, tolerant and inclusive atmosphere.     Festivities all year round

    Another very lively idea is to set out to take part in all the festivities that take place in Spain. Not only the ones in the big cities like the Fallas and the Tomatina in Buñol in Valencia, the April Fair in Seville and the San Fermín bull-running festival in Pamplona, but also other more local but just as entertaining festivities such as the  Viking Pilgrimage in Catoira (Galicia) and the Wine Battle in Haro (La Rioja).     Spain by train

    If you like this mode of transport, an excellent idea would be to use any of the interrail passes for Spain –it's a great way of travelling round the country comfortably and without the need to drive. You'll be able to see major cities like Barcelona and Madrid, or visit some attractive beaches. If you want to save time, your best bet is to take a high-speed train (AVE). To start your sightseeing experience you can climb on board one of the Galician sightseeing trains or the Al-Andalus train which tours Andalusia. See more

    To forget about your troubles and reach a perfect state of inner calm and well-being, what could be better than a visit to a spa or spa resort?     Are you a fashionista? And you're planning a holiday in Spain? Well you're in luck, because you'll find endless opportunities to buy everything you ever wanted.     Who doesn't enjoy good food? Gastronomic tourism is another way of discovering Spain through its typical dishes. From the popular and inexpensive tapas through to the fresh fried fish of Cadiz, and not forgetting Valencian paella and the pintxos from the Basque Country.     Play at being a film star

    Many famous film masterpieces have been shot all over Spain from north to south, in a number of very different places. One of the most cinematographic cities is Barcelona. As you stroll around this city you'll see for yourself all the charms showcased by films like Vicky Cristina Barcelona, by Woody Allen. What's more you can also be the star of your own Western in Almería. Many famous figures from the world of film have visited Spain and immortalised it on the big screen.     Theatre festivals

    Are you a theatre lover? If the answer's yes, then you're in luck. In Spain you'll find a wide variety of festivals dedicated to this art, many of which take place outdoors as they tend to be held in summer. The classics never go out of fashion in the Mérida festivals (Extremadura) and the Almagro (Castile-La Mancha), for example. You can also always find a good programme of performing arts in most theatres in the main cities and towns.     Music for everyone

    Do you like dancing? Or do you prefer listening to something more relaxing? Especially in summer, numerous Spanish cities organise festivals dedicated to different types of music, as is the case of jazz in the international festivals of San Sebastián and San Javier. You'll find flamenco in the Cante de Las Minas in La Unión (Murcia) and folklore in La Mar de Músicas in Cartagena. And for dancing there's nothing like the Benicassim International Festival (FIB) and the Sónar (Barcelona). Options on offer outside the summer season include Womad in Fuerteventura and Cáceres, the International Jazz Festival in Barcelona, and Primavera Sound. See more
