Port of Alicante

Alicante is the ideal place to enjoy the seaside in winter, thanks to its mild temperatures and nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine a year. Ideas for making the most of a visit include indulging in excellent Valencian cuisine in the harbour restaurants, playing golf, practising water sports, and exploring the surrounding area.Alicante is in south-east Spain, in the region of Valencia. The city is open to the sea, and its mild climate means you can enjoy being outdoors all year long. So we recommend strolling around the harbour area and visiting the characterful market stands set up on La Rambla on many afternoons, or spending a day shopping on and around Avenida Maisonnave. The city’s museums and theatres also offer a very attractive array of cultural activities.

  • Alicante through its streets

A good way to get to know the city is by walking around the historic town centre and the Santa Cruz neighbourhood, where you can enjoy the Mediterranean lifestyle typical of this part of Spain, with pedestrianised streets and whitewashed houses decorated with geraniums. Finally, don’t forget to climb up to Santa Bárbara castle, a medieval fortress with spectacular views over the city.

If you prefer a quiet day at the beach or a stroll along the shore, you’ll like beaches such as San Juan, Postiguet, and La Albufereta.

  • Alicante through its cuisine

    Typical rice from Alicante

The local cuisine is a shining example of the Mediterranean diet, and the perfect complement to your strolls around the marina or the historic quarter. Try some traditional rice and seafood dishes like paella, arroz con costra or arroz a banda, accompanied by wines with the Designation of Origin of Alicante, for example, and for dessert, the local specialities - ice cream or Alicante turrón.
