Galleries in the exhibition
The Swiss artist visits the Prado Museum in Madrid to mark its bicentenary. A total of 20 of his works are on show alongside key pieces in the museum’s collection.
The group of sculptures “Piazza” are shown with “Las Meninas” by Velázquez. Titian welcomes Giacometti’s paintings and his sculpture “The Chariot” to the gallery. Giacometti shares spaces with El Greco, Tintoretto and Zurbarán in an exhibition that illustrates the timeless quality of the human figure as a subject in art, and Giacometti’s idea that past and present meet in art.The 20 works (18 sculptures and two paintings) on display are from the artist’s last 20 years. At that time, Giacometti abandoned Surrealism in search of a realism which, in a way, would detach him from his own time and associate him with the past.
