Are you coming to Spain in 2018? Here’s what you can expect #visitspain


Spain’s yearly calendar of events is a long list of reasons for visiting. From concerts by international stars to traditional celebrations, major sports events, cultural commemorations and exhibitions to enhance your trip to Spain.

  • Exhibition in the Year of Murillo in Seville

    The painter Murillo was born 400 years ago in Seville, and the city is celebrating in style. Events include exhibitions, concerts, workshops, musical programmes, educational activities, and an international conference.

  • Food on a plate

    The city and its surrounding area will be the culinary epicentre of Spain in 2018. It is well known for its traditional tapas bars, cured meats such as cecina (dry-cured beef) and pork products, and dishes including botillo.

  • Picasso Museum Barcelona

    You can enjoy them in all the major cities. Some examples: Barcelona and the exhibitions on Picasso in at the Museu Picasso; Madrid and events at the Prado Museum showcasing portraits by Lorenzo Lotto or 12 contemporary photographers’ vision of the museum, as well as the Monet/Boudin exhibition at the Thyssen Museum, or the display focusing on Duchamp, Magritte and Dalí in the Gaviria Palace. The Guggenheim Museum has in turn brought part of the prestigious Thannhauser collection to Bilbao.

  • Concert

    In 2018, Spain plays host to artists such as Bruno Mars (Madrid and Barcelona, in June), Iron Maiden (Madrid, in July), Jay-Z and Beyoncé (Barcelona, in July), Lenny Kravitz (Madrid, in July), Guns N’ Roses (Barcelona, in July), Shakira (Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao between June and July), Pearl Jam (Barcelona, in July), U2 (Madrid, in September) and Maluma (on tour in September, playing in Seville, Madrid, Palencia, Valencia and Barcelona). There are also plenty of music festivals, especially in summer.

  • Valentino Rossi in the Valencia Grand Prix

    This year Spain is hosting world-class competitions in the half-marathon (March, in Valencia), women’s basketball (September, in Tenerife), and karate (November, in Madrid). There will also be world championships in snowboard cross (March, in the ski resort of La Molina) and triathlon (September, in Madrid). The classics return, with the Tennis Masters 1000 in Madrid (May), the World Motorcycle Championship on the circuits of Jerez, Catalonia, Aragon, and the Valencian Community, and Formula 1 on the Catalonia circuit.

  • Plaza de Cervantes square in Alcalá de Henares

    Fifteen cities with UNESCO World Heritage sites. There will be events to mark the anniversary through 2018, including a commemorative concert in Alcalá de Henares on 16 June, and Heritage Night on 15 September. Local cuisines will be an important feature of the programme.

  • The MTV Awards come to Bilbao

    They will celebrate their 25th anniversary in style with a gala presentation on 4 November at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre. Awards will be given to the most successful artists of 2018, with appearances by many of the world’s most popular singers and musicians.

  • Plaza Mayor, Valladolid

    The circumnavigation of the globe by Magellan and Elcano, from 1519 to 1522, was the first truly global event. The celebrations begin this year and will continue until 2022, mainly in Valladolid, Seville, Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz), and Tenerife.

    The Teresian Year is mainly based in the province of Ávila, with four tourism routes focusing on Saint Teresa.

  • Roman amphitheatre in Tarragona

    Tarragona has been chosen to host these games which bring together athletes from the countries around the Mediterranean Sea. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy the Olympic spirit in a city with some of the world’s most important Roman heritage sites.

    Many of the world’s best footballers play in Spain every week: Messi, Modric, Griezmann, Coutinho, Isco... Take the opportunity to enjoy La Liga, the Champions League and the Europa League in Spain.
