  • Panoramic view of the city of Barcelona

Is it the culture? Gaudí and Art Nouveau are good reasons, with spaces like Park Güell and Casa Batlló. Is it the urban lifestyle? Its cool neighbourhoods like El Born, full of interesting shops and appetising restaurants, set it apart. Is it the fun? Sunny days on the Mediterranean, world-leading football in the Camp Nou, operas at the Gran Teatre del Liceu… Nobody gets bored here.

  • Plaza de España Square

Immense, cheerful, original and unique… A square full of colour and history which has even been visited by beings from other galaxies (only in fiction, alas, as a setting for Star Wars). You can walk around it, take a horse-drawn carriage, or take a tranquil boat ride along its canal.

  • Mosque of Cordoba

As one of the most extraordinary buildings of all time, it can hardly be ignored. Especially given that it is perfectly conserved after 1200 years of history. This is the Great Mosque, in the old town centre of Cordoba. The highly decorated halls and the dreamlike perspectives created by over 500 columns and double arches captivate anyone who visits it.

It’s the home of Goya and Velázquez, the great masters of Spanish painting, and a museum to savour in repeated visits. Bosch, El Greco, Titian, Van Dyck and Rembrandt, among others, form part of a collection which is a must-see for art lovers, connoisseurs, and anyone simply interested in beautiful paintings. And every year there is something new and different to enjoy with its programme of temporary exhibitions.
