Imagine you want to surprise your partner. Flowers and going out to dinner is great. But a getaway to one of the most famous spas in Spain is better. We're talking about the spa in Archena, a pretty town in Murcia in the south of Spain and in the Mediterranean area. You can organise a trip to Archena of several days or plan a journey to the Costa Cálida (Warm Coast) in Murcia and take a weekend break in Archena.
You'll know you're in Archena by its unusual scenery with palm trees surrounded by mountains. If you decide to stay at the spa, you'll see that there are several treatments designed for couples. Can you imagine having a mud or chocolate massage with your partner while a meal is prepared for you with roses, candles and cava? And seeing the mountain lit up at night while sipping a cocktail on a chill-out terrace or listening to a jazz concert? The whole thermal complex has several hotels, health treatments, beauty treatments... A fabulous place for disconnecting, making yourself beautiful and getting the romance back. In fact, many couples choose it for their wedding. Archena also has a central 4-star hotel with spa services, massages for couples on an open terrace, padel...
If you want to combine relaxation with a little active tourism, Archena is the place for you too. You can start one of the prettiest trails in this area of Murcia right from the spa: it takes you along the banks of the river Segura for seven kilometres. You will be stunned by the abundance of greenery and you will love the scents of jasmine and orange blossom. Furthermore, the road (which is completely pedestrian and you can walk or cycle along it) "hides" a surprise at one point: 11 stone monoliths with engravings of poems by Archena's most famous poet: Vicente Medina. It's worth taking a look at them. If you're a fan of hiking, you will also like to go up (the 40-minute trail) to the mountainous area of El Ope, which has several viewpoints. And for those of you who are even more adventurous, you can try out more activities in the surrounding areas. Archena forms part of the Valle del Ricote, where several companies organise abseiling, canoeing, balloon flights... If you come with a campervan , there is an ample area for this type of transport in Archena.
A romantic spot
Archena also has a romantic garden that surrounds the Palacete de Villarías. The garden has a eucalyptus tree that is six metres in circumference, a pool with waterfalls and a pergola covered by Judas trees (known in Spanish as the “tree of love”). Did you know that the pink flowers blossom on the branches before the leaves on this tree? The Palacete de Villarías also houses the curious Esparto Museum, which has a coffee set called “you and me” or the “bride's jug” amongst other items. How about picking up a gift?
The complete plan
If, besides a getaway to Archena, you are thinking of spending a few days on the Costa Cálida, here's a suggestion for the icing to top it off: hire a yacht to take you around the beautiful coves.
