Spain’s yearly calendar of events gives you a long list of reasons for visiting. From concerts by international stars to major sports events, cultural commemorations and exhibitions which will enhance your trip to Spain.

    The circumnavigation of the globe by Magellan and Elcano, from 1519 to 1522, was the first truly global event. The celebrations will continue until 2022, mainly in Valladolid, Seville, Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz), and Tenerife.

  • The Year of Lorca 2019

    Federico García Lorca is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated Spanish poets of all time. This year, the Community of Madrid will be especially commemorating the author of “Poet in New York” on the centenary of his arrival in Madrid, with lectures, plays, concerts, exhibitions, and more.

    Many of the world’s best footballers play in Spain every week: Messi, Modric, Griezmann... While you’re here, take the opportunity to enjoy a La Liga match. And this year, Madrid will be the second European city to host its fifth Champions League final. The match will be played on 1 June in the Metropolitano, winner of the award for the world’s best stadium in 2018.

    Some call it the world’s best art gallery. In 2018 alone, it received over 3 million visitors, who came to see unique works of art such as “Las Meninas” by Velázquez. This year, it celebrates its bicentenary with numerous exhibitions, including “Solo la voluntad me sobra. Drawings by Goya”, “Giacometti at the Prado”, and “Velázquez, Rembrandt, Vermeer. Miradas afines en España y Holanda”.

  • Your favourite singers are coming to Spain

    In 2019, Spain will be playing host to artists including Metallica (Barcelona, in May), Ed Sheeran (Madrid, June), Muse (Madrid, July), Rod Stewart (Fuengirola, July), Bon Jovi (Madrid, July) and Michael Bublé (Madrid, September). And of course its famous music festivals have impressive lineups, especially in summer with Sónar and FIB.

  • Cibeles fountain with a gay pride flag

    This event, from 28 June to 7 July, celebrates the LGBT community and their rights, attracts tourists from over 90 countries and has become one of the capital’s biggest events. This year it will also commemorate 50 years since the Stonewall riots protesting against police homophobia in New York.

  • More and more stars

    Since November 2018, Spanish restaurants can boast 22 new Michelin stars. Why not give yourself a treat and visit one of the 11 restaurants with the highest distinction of 3 stars? These are: Dani García Restaurant and Aponiente (Andalusia), Martín Berasategui, Arzak, Akelarre and Azurmendi (Basque Country), El Celler de Can Roca, Abac and Lasarte (Catalonia), DiverXO (Madrid) and Quique Dacosta (Valencian Community). Another option you might like: Did you know that Madrid is home to the world’s first tablao which, as well as a flamenco show, offers a Michelin-starred menu? This great experience is at Corral de la Morería.
