Castile-León is also synonymous with adrenaline and fun. Its mountainous landscapes, trails and rivers are the ideal setting for sports in the pure, fresh air. Horse riding routes, hiking and kayaking are just a few of the options. Looking for something more daring? Then try climbing, caving or quad biking. Furthermore, you don’t have to worry about anything as there are visitor centres and specialist companies in each area to provide everything you need.
If you like the mountains, in Castile-León you will find locations like the stunning peaks of the Sierra de Gredos Mountains, an area that is ideal for cycle touring; or those of the Sierra de La Demanda, where not only will you find extensive forests, great for hiking, but there are also mountains reaching 2,000 metres to climb. Take away pleasant memories of the Picos de Urbión and Sierra de Ancares Mountains with their unspoilt valleys. Something more relaxing? Take a pleasant walk and enjoy the amazing landscapes of Las Médulas, the world’s largest surface gold mine dating from the time of the Roman Empire, which now has the UNESCO World Heritage designation; otherwise, play golf while you enjoy views of the Sierra de Béjar Mountains.

Castile-León’s rivers, lakes and inland beaches mean you can enjoy river tourism in direct contact with nature, and enjoy a refreshing dip. Would you like to see a river canyon carved out by erosion? Don’t miss Arribes del Duero, where you can take a boat and explore deep canyons with walls reaching 500 metres in height. Here you will also find one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the Iberian Peninsula: Pozo de los Humos.
A little more? Head for the Neila Lakes, explore the Duratón River Canyons by kayak, follow the spectacular trail of the Lobos River Canyon and marvel at the Lago de Sanabria Nature Reserve, home to Spain’s largest glacial lake. Another itinerary you are sure to find fascinating is the Cares Route, which follows the river on a journey through narrow gorges crossing hanging bridges, in the Picos de Europa Mountains of León province.
