Collage of different images of Spain

Spain offers many ways to enjoy nature, leisure and culture. There is something for everyone: beaches, mountains, big cities and inviting villages. It is the country with the third most World Heritage Sites designated by UNESCO, which has also recognised its Mediterranean diet as Intangible Cultural Heritage and declared many of its natural spaces as Biosphere Reserves. Good weather is one of its identifying features, with more than 3,000 hours of sunshine a year. It has some of the world's most important museums and endless options for doing sport. It is also the second most mountainous country in Europe and has areas of great beauty and ecological value like its National Parks. As to transport, you can travel to and around Spain easily thanks to its extensive network of land, sea and air connections.

A good way to combine nature, tradition and culture is to go on the Way of Saint James, which goes through incredible regions including the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia. Another good idea is to go hiking or cycling on some of the almost 2,000 km of Green Routes. In the different coastal areas in Spain and its islands, Canary Islands and Balearic Islands, you can enjoy a great variety of scenery including small coves, large expanses of dunes, green forests and volcanic and desert landscapes. If you prefer visiting beautiful cities, you will find many with a rich historical and cultural mix and incredible monuments, like the Great Mosque of Cordoba and the Alhambra in Granada, in Andalusia. Other examples include Seville and its cathedral, Segovia and its aqueduct, Valencia and its City of Arts and Sciences, Bilbao and its Guggenheim Museum. The capital, Madrid, has a wide cultural offering and some of the most important museums in the country. In Madrid you will love the " Art Route ". In Barcelona you will fall in love with Modernism thanks to the works of the famous architect Gaudí, including the Sagrada Familia and Güell Park. And you will always be able to find a festival, exhibition, musical or guided tour to interest you. During the day you can go shopping or have a drink at one of our typical terrace bars. If you like good food, you can choose from one of our prestigious restaurants or try a few typical tapas. You cannot leave without trying some of our traditional dishes, like paella or Spanish omelette, accompanied by a good wine. Spanish nightlife, especially in the big cities, may go on until dawn in its bars, pubs and discos. If you prefer something more cultural, a good idea is to go to a flamenco show. You can also have fun at the major festivals in Spain, like the Carnival celebrations in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Cadiz (in February), Easter Week (in March-April), the Fallas bonfire festival in Valencia (in March) and the bull-running of San Fermín (in July) in Pamplona. When looking for somewhere to stay the choices range from our Parador hotels to other more original options like sleeping in a cave. These are just a few of the possibilities for discovering this country. For more information, click on the images and links that interest you.
