Cordoba: one destination with four World Heritage tours
Art, culture, tradition, history... Cordoba combines all of this within only 10 kilometres. It has three UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Mosque of Cordoba, the Historic Centre and the Medina Azahara. If you visit in May you will have the chance to enjoy the Cordoba Fiesta de los Patios, named a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage event.
You only need to stroll around the city to see why it is a World Heritage site. Walk down the Calleja de las Flores, through the Plaza de la Corredera, among the narrow streets of the Jewish quarter, take in the Synagogue, the Viana Palace or the Roman bridge and temple, visit the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos and its gardens... The city is an example of century-long co-inhabitance.
Known as the Shining city, it was the capital of the Caliphate and a symbol of all its grandeur and wealth. This amazing site is only 10 kilometres from Cordoba (direct bus transfers) and is the largest archaeological site in Spain. The 2-hour guided tour is a must-do on your trip to Cordoba. There are also night tours.
This is the city's most international festival and takes place every May. During the festival the patios of the Historic Centre of Cordoba are open to the public. These patios are decorated with flowers which fill the city with colour and aromas of jasmine and orange blossom. The patios also hold flamenco shows. You will find some of the most popular in the Alcázar Viejo, Santa Marina and la Magdalena neighbourhoods, as well as around San Lorenzo and the Mosque.
