World Heritage in Spain
Spain is the country with the third largest number of UNESCO World Heritage sites. And the Alhambra in Granada (Andalusia) is one of those places that every traveller should visit at least once in a lifetime.
But that is only the start, because in Spain you will find everything from civil buildings, like Segovia aqueduct and the Roman theatre in Mérida, to religious monuments like Burgos Cathedral and the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, started by Gaudí in Barcelona. Do you want to know how our ancestors painted? In Spain you can go as far back as prehistoric times, in places like the Altamira Caves (Cantabria) and the Atapuerca site (Burgos). Do you imagine yourself strolling in the gardens of Real Alcázar palace in Seville or of El Escorial Monastery in Madrid? Or do you want to discover the features of the unique Mudéjar art style? You have plenty to choose from. Walk around the top of the Roman Wall in Lugo, discover the University of Alcalá de Henares, look at the Silk Exchange in Valencia… but don't let them tell you all about it; come and see for yourself.
