La Mercè, one of the most famous festivals in Barcelona.
This typical fiesta is one of the main annual events for the people of Barcelona, and in 2021 it is being held from 23 to 26 September with all safety precautions in place. Thanks to the Mercè Arts de Carrer Festival you can enjoy all number of music, dance and circus events and watch the famous castellers live as they form human towers. What’s more, the Barcelona Acció Musical also takes place within this festival, filling the streets with popular and current music. La Mercè concludes with the traditional Piromusical, a display of fireworks and sound that will make you see the city in a very special way.
Music to suit all tastes
Dua Lipa, Elton John and Alanis Morissette are just some of the stars lined up to appear in concert.From 20 October until January 2022 the Barcelona International Jazz Festival is taking place, an event to make you tap your feet to the sound of the piano, trumpet and guitar. The perspective of two geniuses
From November until March 2022 the National Art Museum of Catalonia is hosting a large retrospective of Gaudí, the architect that attracts millions of people from all over the world to Barcelona every year. Sketches, paintings, sculptures, design objects and furniture created by Gaudí will be on display. Another event you’re sure to love is “Klimt: the Immersive Experience” at the Ideal Digital Arts Centre, with a series of large-format projections that invite visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant city of Vienna as seen by the artist.
Sitges, capital of film
Located just 30 kilometres from Barcelona, Sitges is becoming the Spanish capital of cinema from 7 to 17 October. That’s because this Catalan city is hosting the 54th International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia. You can attend the previews of some of Spain’s best horror and fantasy movies. There is a wide range of activities running in conjunction with the festival, including workshops, outdoor talks, contests and exhibitions.
Take a trip to Japan thanks to Manga
If you are a comic fan, Barcelona has something for you too. Manga Barcelona, taking place from 29 October to 1 November. Talks by the writers of the moment, drawing activities, special workshops for children, exhibitions, etc. Many fans visit the Show dressed as comic characters, creating an atmosphere that will transport you to the magical world of Japanese manga.
Relax and enjoy the fairytale parks
Barcelona is lovely all year round but in the autumn it is spectacular. This is partly due to its parks where you can take unique photos and strolls through their fairytale settings. Güell Park, La Ciutadella Park, the Botanical Garden and Montjuic Park are some of the places that are tinged in stunning shades of brown, red and yellow at this time of the year.
Barcelona is currently celebrating its position as World Capital of Sustainable Food 2021 with different restaurants throughout the city offering a “Seasonal Menu”, one of the initiatives adopted by the capital that follows the principles of sustainability, health and seasonality.One of the “star” products of autumn is the wild mushrooms, which you can find in La Boquería market and it’s famous stall Bolets Petràs, a must-visit for foodies.

If you fancy a trip outside of the city, here is a selection of interesting ideas: you can book a horse riding trip though the Collserola Nature Reserve, cycle through El Penedés –one of the largest wine regions in Spain– or go hunting for wild mushrooms in Sierra de Montseny. Also, even in autumn, as the temperatures are mild, you may still want to take a dip at one of the local beaches or put on a wetsuit for a spot for surfing.
