Northern Spain with the family: From the Basque Country to Galicia by electric van
A fascinating family route through landscapes, culture and gastronomy
Travelling with children in northern Spain can be an enriching and fun experience. The Martín family saw for themselves on their road trip from the Basque Country to Galicia, accompanied by their son Leo. An electric van adventure that combined nature, history, sport and local flavours.
The Basque Country: Living history and calm landscapes
The route began in Laguardia, a medieval village in Álava, ideal for a slow-paced journey. Nearby, the visit to the dolmen of the Chabola de la Hechicera connected them with Basque prehistory.

In Aldayeta, they cycled next to the Ullíbarri-Gamboa reservoir, a perfect experience to enjoy the natural environment. The stop at Atxeta Gazta allowed them to discover high quality artisan cheeses. And in Artziniega, Leo attended a Basque pelota class at the local pelota court, getting to know this traditional sport at first hand.
Cantabria: surfing, the sea and wildlife in their natural habitat
On the beach of Somo, the sunny day was the perfect excuse for a family surf lesson. Afterwards, they travelled along the Cantabrian coast to Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera, where they enjoyed the views of the Rayo Verde and some local anchovies.

Cantabria's highlight was Cabárceno Wildlife Park, a natural space where you can observe animals in a semi-wild environment, ideal for arousing the curiosity of children.
Asturias: Tradition, adventure and picture-postcard landscapes
In Cangas de Onís, they attended a local pilgrimage event and discovered Asturian cider and the local gastronomy. Leo had a great time listening to folk stories told by neighbours. In Quirós, our family went kayaking on the Valdemurio reservoir and cycled along the Senda del Oso, a greenway perfect for active families.

Galicia: Among vineyards, rivers and popular festivals
The last leg of the journey took them to Galicia. They enjoyed a relaxing stay at Parador de Santo Estevo, in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra, in a unique natural setting. They visited the Terrabrava winery and walked along the banks of the Miño river in Pincelo, where Leo played with his father.

The traditional architecture of the hórreos of A Merca and the gastronomy of Allariz completed the experience. The end of the trip came in Xinzo de Limia, where they took part in its colourful carnival, a celebration that left them with indelible memories.
