You'll be able to choose from a whole range of activities designed specially for you and your family to guarantee maximum excitement in a privileged setting. Winter This is the perfect time of year to enjoy the ultimate winter sport, either by taking a downhill skiing course in the ski resorts of La Pinilla and Valdesquí or through a guided snow-shoe excursion. There are guided and programmed activities suitable for all ages and levels. We recommend checking with the companies in the area, as many of them offer transfers from the ski resort itself. Spring In spring, birdwatching is one of the most popular activities in this area of the Madrid Region, as it's regarded as a paradise for birds. This is also an excellent time to go on bike excursions (on your own or with a guide) along the Lozoya nature path, explore Somosierra, Cervera de Buitrago and El Berrueco on a donkey, or go trekking on horseback around the area of Buitrago de Lozoya, Torrelaguna, Oteruelo del Valle and Torremocha del Jarama. If you prefer to make your way on foot, why not try the famous Senda del Genaro footpath that borders the El Atazar reservoir, or the various natural trails you'll find in the Sierra del Rincón and in towns like Buitrago del Lozoya and Rascafría? Summer June, July and August are perfect for lovers of water sports like kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing and sailing (dinghy and sailboat), as the calm waters of the reservoirs make the ideal place for enjoying all these activities. Why not visit the La Pinilla reservoir, Buitrago and the natural setting of the Lozoya river, or the first inland marine resort known as the Cervera Marine Resort Area in Cervera de Buitrago, and discover all the activities on offer there? Autumn Wild mushrooms feature largely during these months of the year, so don't miss the opportunity to take a mushroom collecting course or attend a few of the events on offer in some of the towns and villages throughout the area. If you're looking for an adrenaline rush, you could have a go at bungee jumping in the area of Gascones and Gargantilla del Lozoya, or try your hand at climbing on natural rock in the La Cabrera and Patones area. You can also enjoy a range of activities all year round in the multi-adventure areas, featuring zip wires, archery, climbing walls, canoes… Fun, thrills and nature for the whole family.
The Sierra Norte region of Madrid is a first-rate birdwatching destination. It has numerous footpaths through the different municipalities that allow you to observe and identify a wide range of the birds commonly spotted in this area. Here you'll find guided routes around La Cabrera, La Acebeda, Lozoya, Rascafría, Canencia, El Cuadrón and Patones, among other areas. And if you want to enjoy birdwatching in a really original way, don't miss the bird-ringing courses on offer in the La Cabrera area. You'll spend a morning attaching rings to the legs of birds, which will then be used to identify them and obtain information on their migratory routes, while you learn more about this exceptional animal world. In the area of the Alto Lozoya and the El Paular valley you'll find special protection areas for species like the black vulture and the imperial eagle.
