Gastronomic specialities of the El Bierzo region are the botillo (cured stuffed meat) served with potatoes, cecina (cured meat), sausages, and due to the influence of the neighbouring Galicia, octopus, conger eel and empanada (savoury filled pastry). Other specialities include chestnuts, fruit and vegetables such as apples, pears, peppers, wines and brandies from El Bierzo.
