GR 106: Route of Saint Melchor
The Route of Saint Melchor is a mountain crossing of great interest in terms of both its natural landscape and its culture.
A large part of the path runs from the city of Oviedo along the spurs of the imposing Sierra del Aramo, crossing typically Asturian settlements that show a richness of both ethnography and traditional architecture in their houses, to reach the monastery of San Melchor, set in the hamlet of Cortes in the municipality of Quirós. In 1995, the San Melchor de Oviedo Moutaineering Group prepared an initial project to present to the Asturian Mountaineering Federation. From the initial idea until the present project, the path has undergone several changes, bringing it close to places of greatest interest.
