Capilla del Monte de Santa Tecla. A Guarda
It is located in the Galicia region in northwest Spain. In a distance of just a few kilometres, visitors can go from mountain landscapes to the coastline along the Rías Baixas estuary. The area has numerous places of exceptional beauty, with viewing points overlooking the estuaries. Particularly lovely is the Islas Atlánticas National Park and its magnificent beaches. It is well worth discovering the treasures of the Romanesque Route to see the typical Galician mansions known as pazos, and visiting places in Pontevedra such as Marín, with its megalithic monuments; Vilaboa and Poio for the rock engravings; and La Guardia, Sanxenxo, Cambados and the Illa de Arousa, all with fabulous beaches. Not to be missed is the capital, Pontevedra, and its historic centre. The festivities of this region reflect its ancestral traditions; these include the round-up of wild horses in the Festival known as A Rapa das bestas in Sabucedo, and the Viking Pilgrimage in Catoira, both declared to be of International Tourist Interest. The most famous product in the typical gastronomy of Pontevedra is without a doubt its shellfish (celebrated in festivals such as the Exaltation of Shellfish from O Grove), always accompanied by the typical local wine, Albariño, the star of the Rías Baixas Wine Route.
