Vizcaya is connected by means of one of the best motorway networks (toll and free) in the whole country, and Bilbao is the communications hub for the north of the Iberian Peninsula.   

By car

The AP-8 motorway goes to Donostia/San Sebastián and Irún, and from there continues on to Bordeaux and Paris, or Toulouse and Montpellier. The AP-68, which runs through the Ebro Valley, goes to Barcelona and joins the AP-7, which runs down the Mediterranean coast. The AP-68 also goes straight to Burgos, and from there to Madrid, Valladolid and Portugal.

Situated some 12 kilometres outside the city, Bilbao international airport is the air transport hub of the northern peninsula, with flights to the main cities in Spain and the major European destinations.The airport is linked to the city by the A3247 bus route, which goes to the Termibus station and has stops in Plaza Moyúa square, in Gran Vía 79 and in Alameda Rekalde 11. The fare is €1.45. From the Termibus bus station, located in the heart of the city centre, there are a number of different coach companies that provide regional, national and international services.There are direct connections to Bilbao and San Sebastián.

The Bilbao-Abando station is a departure and arrival point for Renfe long-distance trains, offering daily services to Madrid and Barcelona and connections to Logroño, Zaragoza, Valladolid, Salamanca, Malaga, A Coruña, Vigo, Burgos, León and Segovia. Abando also has three Cercanías suburban railway lines (C1, C2 and C3) that connect Bilbao and its metropolitan area with the territory of Bizkaia and some towns in Álava.Renfe Spain Pass This pass allows non-residents to travel around Spain by train. This system is very practical, as it can be used on all AVE long-distance and mid-distance high-speed trains. The Renfe Spain Pass is valid for one month from the first trip and comes in two formats (Business/Club and Tourist). By sea

Ferry A regular ferry line –the Cap Finistère– arrives at the port of Santurtzi from England. Twice a week it carries people and vehicles from the city of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom. The port can be reached by city bus from Plaza Jado square on the C-1 suburban train line and by road on the AP-8 motorway. http://www.brittanyferries.es/Cruises Getxo, only 10 kilometres from the centre of Bilbao (accessible by metro to the Neguri station, and on bus routes 3411 and 3413), is an embarkation and disembarkation port for the cruise lines MSC Cruceros, Iberocruceros and Pullmantur.
