Description

Temptation, mortal sins and the devil are the main themes of this Jan Brueghel exhibition held at the National Sculpture Museum until the beginning of March.

The exhibition “The Devil, perhaps. The World of the Brueghels” combines digital language with tools used by the old masters such as drawing. It brings together a diverse collection of pieces, including drawings, reliefs, paintings, furniture and a video installation by artist Antoine Roegiers, creating a game of mirrors between the 16th and 21st centuries in the Museum's temporary exhibition rooms. The perverse and crazed scenes in Brueghel's works seem to conceal an indecipherable enigma at the same time as awakening our sympathy as we sense a deliciously modern freedom in their narrative images. In conjunction with the exhibition, the National Sculpture Museum has organised a series of activities including concerts, films, workshops, guided tours and courses.
