Description

This major retrospective of Andy Warhol follows the creative development of the iconic Pop artist in detail, from his beginnings as a commercial graphic designer in the 1950s to his death in 1987, when he had already achieved legendary status.

The exhibition underlines the serial, repetitive and artificial nature of Warhol’s visual work over more than 30 years. It ranges from his most emblematic images - the Campbell’s soup cans, the portraits of Marilyn Monroe and Liz Taylor - to experimental film (such as his Screen Tests) and the legendary multimedia installation he created for the group The Velvet Underground. It also shows a set of portraits of Andy Warhol by such distinguished photographers as Alberto Schommer, Richard Avedon, and Robert Mapplethorpe. In total, the exhibition includes 352 works: paintings, sculptures, drawings, silkscreen prints, installations, art books, films, record sleeves, objects, and photographic material.
