Xacobeo. The footprints of the Camino

A Coruña

The Gaiás Centre Museum highlights the rich historical, cultural, natural and human heritage that has surrounded the Camino de Santiago for more than nine centuries, when the status of jubilee year was granted to all those years in which 25 July is on a Sunday.

The exhibition is held on the occasion of the 2021 Jacobean Year (to be extended extraordinarily during 2022) and highlights the continental vocation of the Jacobean phenomenon. As a matter of fact, it is the first declaration of the European Cultural Itinerary (since 1987). The pieces on show belong mainly to the manuscript, bibliographic, audiovisual, cartographic and literary collections of the National Library of Spain.

The exhibition revolves around "the footprints" of the Camino with its different meanings. From the meaning of a footprint as a “camino” to that of a mark that the foot leaves where it passes, including the mark that an overlay or printed form leaves on paper or something else that is stamped, or the trail that someone or something leaves and which can be manifested in any artistic expression.
