Renau in Exile

Exhibition - Illustration

The Valencian Institute of Modern Art presents the work of poster designer, photomontage artist, muralist and writer Josep Renau, focused on his two periods of exile; in Mexico (1939-1958) and in Communist Berlín (1958-1982).

Josep Renau was a pioneer of the historic avant-garde movements in Valencia during the Second Republic, and was particularly appreciated by those who understood art as an instrument at the service of social revolution. The museum holds an excellent collection of Renau’s work, thanks to several long-term loans made in 1989, 1991 and 1994 from the artist’s personal archive and library, and also from the Fundación Josep Renau.
