Rembrandt and his portraits produced in Amsterdam around 1590-1670

Exhibition - Painting
Madrid

For the first time in Spain, the Thyssen presents an exhibition devoted to Rembrandt’s role as a portrait painter.

Together with a score of his portraits, the exhibition includes prominent examples of other artists active at the same time as him during the “Dutch Golden Age” (17th century), amounting to a total of 80 paintings and 16 engravings, some never before seen in Europe.

The exhibition enables the variety and quality of these works to be discovered, as well as allowing us to get to know the stories behind the figures in the portraits: married couples, working craftsmen, children, scholars, businessmen, prominent painters alone or depicted in groups, etc.
