The Lebanese artist Walid Raad presents this new fictional account of research at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in the form of an exhibition on the acquisition of the museum’s collection.
The artistic practice of Walid Raad is usually associated with historical fiction and this exhibition is a fine example as on this occasion his work revolves around the genesis of the Thyssen Museum itself, its collection, archives, and the histories of its holdings. The artist presents imagined and hidden episodes, tangled connections between the works, historical events related to the museum and its collection, connections to other world museums... and all through works and interventions that appear throughout the museum. Visitors can appreciate the forgotten figures and characters that appear in the museum's rooms, even involving insects and nails. There will also be a series of itinerant lecture-performances where reality and fantasy are blended into one.
