The Carmen Thyssen Museum in Málaga is showing over 50 works by Catalan artists from the 19th and 20th centuries who aspired to "paint light". The works are from the Baroness' private collection.
The exhibition illustrates the many new avenues of renovation and modernity explored by Catalan painting in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exhibits includes works by 36 artists: mainly landscapes, genre scenes, and the female figure. All these paintings are linked by their shared passion for capturing light. Visitors can enjoy the realism of Martí Alsina, the artistic experiments with colour of the late 19th century, or the luminosity of the Mediterranean in the early 20th century works on display. As well as paintings, the exhibition includes sculptures and drawings. The exhibition also offers a virtual tour.
