Exhibition: Real(isms). New Figurative Trends in Spanish Art from 1918 to 1936
Exhibition - PaintingThe Carmen Thyssen Museum Málaga is hosting this exhibition on a very creative period in Spain's artistic history, based on realist figurative art and a strong drive towards artistic renewal and a break with nineteenth-century art.
The exhibition showcases 86 pieces by artists as diverse as Salvador Dalí, Ángeles Santos, Pablo Gargallo, Maruja Mallo, Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso. The pieces are grouped into the following genres: spaces (landscapes, indoor scenes), subjects (portraits and nudes) and objects (still life). But, above all, visitors to this exhibition will find a new perspective on life that emerged from the avant-garde upheaval of this period. The pieces depict silent backdrops, with sharply defined atmospheres that seem devoid of air, figures with frozen gestures, as if trapped beneath a layer of wax that turns them into mannequins, objects that are exasperatingly tactile....
