Valencia-València
The Bancaja Foundation in Valencia reveals one of the least-known aspects of the art of Salvador Dalí: illustration.
The artworks on show are a series of 25 lithographs on Japanese paper by Dalí, based on the illustrations of François Desprez for Gargantua and Pantagruel. These eccentric, fantastical figures straddle the line between caricature and farce, highlighting the satirical and bizarre side of Dalí’s work. As well as the grotesque figures, there are also references to the tradition of Carnival and themes such as the seven deadly sins.
