Banksy. The Street is a Canvas

Madrid’s Círculo de Bellas Artes shows over 50 original works by the iconic British artist.

His works are visual texts which both inform us and inspire us to think again. The artist constantly challenges the rules of the game. Outside the traditional circuits, with the street as a canvas and anonymity as his identity, Banksy depicts such subjects as war, wealth, poverty, consumerism, and globalisation.

The exhibition presents over 50 creations in a variety of techniques. From oil on canvas to spray paint, including videos, photographs, and sculptures. An immersive multimedia installation welcomes the visitor, revealing clues about the mysterious artist and his unique career. Is Banksy a genius or a vandal? An artist or a businessman? A troll or a rebel? The exhibition attempts to show his many layers, leaving it up to the visitor to decide the true status of his work in contemporary urban art.
