What makes “a Balenciaga” recognisable? This is the question answered by the series of exhibitions Balenciaga. Character organised by the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum, which explores the work of the legendary Spanish designer from a new and unprecedented perspective.

Dubbed the “Master” of haute couture by his professional colleagues -Dior, Chanel and Givenchy- Balenciaga was one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th century. Throughout his professional career, his name became synonymous with elegance, avant-garde, beauty, and timelessness. This “Balenciaga. Characters” exhibition displays 90 articles and explores a new aspect of his work: what sets it apart and what makes it recognisable.Coexisting with the aspects visible from the outside -silhouettes, volumes, fabrics, and embroidery work- is an interior world that is often hidden.
