The American Dream. Pop to the present

Exhibition - Graphic arts

This exhibition, analysing American graphic art since 1960, is a unique opportunity to see prints by such artists as Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and Roy Lichtenstein.

The show gathers over 200 works, mostly from the collection of the British Museum, exploring the revolution in printmaking over the last 60 years, starting with Pop Art and venturing into other movements, including abstract art, minimalism, and photorealism. The exhibition analyses how printmaking, especially after Pop art exploded into American visual culture, created a new kind of middle-class audience who could afford to buy mass-produced art. Artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Willem de Kooning, Richard Estes, and Robert Rauschenberg used these pieces to express their critical view of the society of their time and issues such as consumerism, politics, feminism, and civil rights.
