The Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum is exhibiting 100 pieces by both creators, Azzedine Alaïa and Cristóbal Balenciaga, belonging to the collections of the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation in Paris.
The dialogue between the designs of both creators reveals a surprising number of shared elements. Their creations are true examples of architecture in clothes, reminding us of how unique the two couturiers were in their time, and the technical mastery of their art. After Balenciaga's death, there were many exhibitions of his designs in the 1970s, and his creations were purchased by numerous collectors. One of these collectors was Azzedine Alaïa, who built up an impressive archive over the years.
