Whale watching in the wild
The fascinating experience of sailing in the Strait of Gibraltar, an area declared an International Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2006, gains a little more excitement when friendly inhabitants of its waters, whales and dolphins, approach the boats to exhibit themselves and satisfy the curiosity of tourists.
There are 4 resident species of the Strait of Gibraltar. Dolphins: Lists, Commons, Mulars and Common Calderon.
These marine mammals make their spectacle in these waters of the Strait throughout the year, some showing their fins and their young shyly, while others striving to show those virtuous jumps.
There are 2 kind of semi-resident species of the Strait of Gibraltar. Whales: The Giants of the Strait, the Fin Whale (the second largest animal on the planet) making a huge spout when breathing on the surface; and the Sperm Whale that show its tail saying goodbye to tourists as if it were an obelisk in the middle of the sea.
Orcas (Orcinus orca): The killer whales, the largest dolphins that exist, come every summer to the strait with their little ones stalking fishing boats to get a share of the blue fin tuna fishing. It is a kind of semi-resident Strait of Gibraltar.
Trips: We sail every day from March to October if weather conditions permit. The probability of success in the sighting is practically 100% in all the trips, with the guarantee of a second chance, in the remote case of not having fulfilled the objective in the first attempt.
Jackelin: It is spacious and comfortable, with underwater vision room and capacity for 165 passengers. It has male and female toilets, bar, internal video circuit.
Pirata de Sálvora: This is the newest boat in the Strait for whale watching. Its profile helps navigation in strong sea and wind conditions, it is a fast boat with excellent performance for whale watching, especially the sighting of Orcas that takes place at a longer distance from the port of Tarifa.
