Would you like to discover the Spanish destinations that have received an award in 2015 for their sustainable tourism model? Here we tell you about the winner and the three finalists in the EDEN awards, which recognise "European Destinations of Excellence". This year the theme was local gastronomy. These destinations will make your mouth water!
You'll see why the district of Goierri, in Euskadi-Basque Country, has won the 7th EDEN awards. Also in the north, you can explore the neighbouring region of Cantabria and find out what's so special about the gastronomy in the Pas Region valleys. And if you want to discover more special flavours, in the south there are two options chosen by EDEN: one in Conil de la Frontera, Cadiz, and the other one in Ceuta, on the other side of the Strait of Gibraltar. EDEN destinations The EDEN project was launched by the European Commission in 2007 with the aim of promoting sustainable tourism destinations in the 26 member states. There are lesser-known corners of Europe that manage tourism in an innovative and environmentally-friendly way and that deserve more exposure, according to the Commission. The district of Goierri now joins the Spanish list of "destinations of excellence", which also includes Sierra de las Nieves , the Ebro Delta , A Guarda , Trasmiera Ecopark and Sierra y Cañones de Guara Nature Reserve .
