Asturias

Enjoying gastronomy and the customs of a region is a fun experience as well as a treat for the senses. You can discover this in the "Comarca de la Sidra" (Cider Region), in the east of Asturias. This area comprises the municipalities of Villaviciosa, Colunga, Nava, Bimenes, Cabranes and Sariego, and here you'll find lots of proposals related to agrotourism.

Tourism to discover agriculture, food and handicrafts
You'll love the idea of tasting typical products. In the Cider Region you'll be able to join guided tours (many of them are free) round facilities belonging to companies or artisans where you'll be able to taste and buy food and gifts:

If you are interested in agriculture, cattle farming and fishing, you'll be able to attend a fish auction, see how indigenous animals are raised and how typical Asturian cured meats are made.

Do you especially like dairy products? Asturian cattle are famous for the quality of their products. Find out for yourself by visiting any of the dairy companies that make and sell cheese, yoghurt and curd cheese. Enough to make your mouth water.

In order to discover how cider, the Asturian drink par excellence, is made, the best way is to visit any of the many llagares (cellars where the apples are crushed to make cider) in the area.

If you want to take home a nice souvenir from this region, we recommend typical handicrafts. Come to any of the workshops where you'll find creative pottery, textile craftwork, artistic printing, cabinetwork, jewellery, furniture restoration, floral art...

Apple and Cider Route
Another option for getting to know more about Asturian customs is to go on the Apple and Cider Route. It is a guided tour (accompanied by a tour guide) around the district, where you'll be able to see apple orchards and learn about traditional apple-growing methods. You'll also visit cellars, the Cider Museum, and you'll have the chance to taste a typical meal (cider tasting with products such as hard-boiled eggs, chorizo, omelettes, savoury pastries, cheese...). You must pay for your own transport, and the routes (which start at the Nava Visitor Centre, and you'll have to book at least 24 hours in advance) are on Fridays. You'll find more information on times and rates for these activities on the official website of the Cider Region .

Taste Asturias. Experience it up close.
