Unique natural beauty in Las Palmas in the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands have such a unique landscape that about 50% of the territory is a protected natural area. We invite you to visit some of these places in the province of Las Palmas.

We propose delving into the nature of the islands of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, which form the province of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. The archipelago is known for its extraordinary beauty of volcanic origin. These are some of the most amazing sites.

Gran Canaria

Over 40% of its territory and part of its waters are a UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve. The main reason is that it is a miniature continent.

In the southern part of the island, you can visit the Barranco de Guayadeque, a very steep area with the large palm trees that are characteristic of Gran Canaria. Also in the south, but on the coast, are the dunes of Maspalomas, a huge area of golden sand that looks like a desert, but is a magnificent beach. Meanwhile, in the centre of the island stand Pozo de las Nieves and Roque Nublo, two peaks offering excellent views. From there you can even see the neighbouring island of Tenerife. Meanwhile, in the northwest you can visit a volcanic crater, the Caldera of Bandama, which is just over 20 kilometres from the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Lanzarote

Lanzarote has been designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The best example of volcanic territory is the Timanfaya National Park. On your visit you will discover a lifeless area of red earth that resembles a lunar landscape. In addition, it is the island birthplace of César Manrique, and you can visit the natural monuments which inspired his art, such as the Mirador del Rio, the Jardín del Cactus or Jameos del Agua (a grotto where architecture and nature blend).

One of its major crops, grape vine, is also present in the volcanic landscape. In fact, the grapes are planted uniquely in Lanzarote to take advantage of the thermoregulatory function of its volcanic soil. You can see for yourself in La Geria. Meanwhile, on the coast you will have the opportunity to visit charming places like El Golfo (a sandy cove with a small green water lagoon) and the beach of Papagayo, a small protected cove with transparent waters.

Fuerteventura

The island and its waters are a UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve. Here you can forget the world. You will find extensive beaches for relaxing and spending the day, both in the north at the Corralejo Nature Reserve, and in the south at Playas de Jandia. And you can take a nautical excursion to the Lobos islet Nature Reserve (a small island paradise located about two kilometres north of Fuerteventura).

In addition to enjoying the landscape in Fuerteventura you can also experience a truly unique moment by attending one of the sea turtle releases that take place on Cofete Beach.
