The La Robla express, a period train for exploring northern Spain




We propose the idea of enjoying a trip in a period train plying its way along three routes between Bilbao, León, Gijón, Santiago de Compostela and Ribadeo. This is the La Robla express, a railway line offering a classic décor and modern facilities, all designed to enhance the pleasure of travel, and conceived so travellers can enjoy the beautiful landscapes through its large windows.

The La Robla express offers glamour and comfort during your journey. It has enormous windows so you can admire the countryside while you travel, as well as common recreational areas including saloon cars with permanent bar service, newspapers, library, video library, television, games area, free breakfast buffet, piped music, computers and free Internet connection. What's more, its sleeping cars are completely climatised and have separate bathrooms with hydromassage showers. In order to ensure your undisturbed rest, the train remains stationary at night so that passengers are not awakened by the movement.

During the route, the train stops at cities and places of interest that can be visited with a guide on the special La Robla express coach. The itineraries  La Robla itinerary: this is a circular route which starts and ends in Bilbao (Basque Country) and mostly runs through the region of Castile-León. It has a duration of four days and three nights, and during its stopovers you can visit the Ojos de Guareña karstic complex (day 1), the Valporquero caves and the city of León (day 2), the Romanesque art and architecture of Palencia (day 3) and Espinosa de los Monteros and Balmaseda (day 4).  Infinite Paradise itinerary: this also starts and ends in the city of Bilbao. It lasts one weekend, and travels through the region of Cantabria. The visits in the programme include the mediaeval town of Santillana del Mar, the El Soplao cave, the city of Santander and other seaside villages like Laredo and Santoña.

The scheduled visits often include a deliciously tempting added attraction in the shape of meals in selected restaurants.

The train also makes a special venue for meetings, workshops and conferences, and has all the necessary equipment for these events.
