Gin from Minorca

This liquor, obtained from the juniper berries of Minorca, is a cross between the British gin and the Mediterranean spirit.
Its origins date back to the colonial period (18th century), which the island of Minorca was occupied by the English Navy. Gin from Minorca is made with liquor from Mediterranean grapes and juniper berries, unlike English Gin, which is made from a cereal liquor. It is distilled in old copper stills and aged in oak casks cured with gin so that the liquid does not take on the colour of the wood. 'Pomada', a mixture of Minorca gin, crushed ice and squeezed lemon, is the Minorcan drink par excellence.
- There are no varieties of the gin, but each producer adds different types of vegetables when making this liquor to provide a bit of distinction.
