描述

Ávila celebrates the first Teresian Jubilee Year, a celebration based on the figure of Saint Teresa of Ávila. A female icon who become one of the most important religious and literary figures of the history of Spain through the reform of the Christian order of the Carmelites and her books.

The Teresian Jubilee Year offers four tourist routes around the main locations related to this figure in the province of Ávila; an opportunity to discover the history of the saint, her missions and literary works, which have consolidated her position as a female icon of the 16th century. The routes also enable you to explore the city of Ávila and its monuments such as its walls, the Cathedral or the Convent of Santa Teresa, taking you to spots such as Duruelo, Alba de Tormes, Piedrahita or Fontiveros, with important convents and monasteries associated with Saint Teresa, and interesting heritage sites. From a religious perspective, you can get credentials for your jubilee journey provided your pilgrimage is at least 100 kilometres (on foot or horseback) or 200 by bicycle, to any of the jubilee places of worship in Ávila, you attend religious celebrations at these places of worship on the relevant days, or you meet precepts of prayer before visiting the places of worship.
