This is one of the two provinces in the Canary Islands and encompasses the islands of Tenerife, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma. Its capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is joint capital of the region together with the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This is the venue for the famous Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, declared a festivity of International Tourist Interest.
It enjoys mild temperatures and is the ideal place to enjoy the seaside all year round. It is well known for being the sun centre of Europe and has a range of outstanding natural resources, with a multitude of microclimates in the interior. The islands of El Hierro and La Palma have been declared Biosphere Reserves by the UNESCO; La Gomera is the home of the Garajonay National Park; Tenerife has the Teide National Park; and La Palma, the Caldera de Taburiente National Park.
Tenerife is also the site of the town of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, whose monumental ensemble has been awarded the World Heritage designation by the UNESCO.
