It is located in the interior of Spain, in the southern part of the Castile-La Mancha region. It is home to 101 different towns and villages and to protected natural areas like the Cabañeros and Tablas de Daimiel National Parks.
The territory is famous for its castles and for historical and architectural treasures such as Villanueva de los Infantes and Almagro. This last town is particularly well-known for its 17th-century Corral de Comedias theatre, which every year plays host to the International Classical Theatre Festival. Windmills are another of the symbols of Ciudad Real, as the province is the scene of the adventures of the famous knight Don Quixote of La Mancha in the famous work by Miguel de Cervantes.
The local gastronomy reflects the fact that Ciudad Real is one of the areas on the La Mancha Wine Route, so this is an excellent opportunity to sample the wines from the Valdepeñas Designation of Origin.
