Exceptional surroundings in the Arán Valley
Vielha, capital of the Arán Valley, is surrounded by peaks reaching over 2,000 metres above sea level. Its origins go back to the Roman period, when it was called Vétula, and when, according to legend, it was home to the giant Mandronius, who fought against the Roman invaders. In the 10th century the village joined the Catalonian counties through feudal agreements, and in the 12th century it became a fully-fledged part of the Crown of Aragon.
