Population distribution

Although Spain's economic structure is still significantly rural, its population is concentrated mainly in large cities.

The Spanish population is estimated at just over 47 million.

The capital, Madrid, has more than 3 million inhabitants, although this figure rises to more than 6 million if we take into account the population of the whole province. Barcelona is the second largest city, with an official population of 1.6 million. As in the case of Madrid, the municipal districts in the rest of the province raise this figure to more than 5 million. These are followed by Valencia (797,028 inhabitants), Seville (702,355 inhabitants), Zaragoza (679,624 inhabitants), Malaga (567,433 inhabitants), Murcia (441,354 inhabitants), Palma (407,648 inhabitants), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (382,296 inhabitants) and Bilbao (351,629 inhabitants).
