In Spain and all over the world, wine and La Rioja go hand-in-hand. The wines of this region in northern Spain have earned world-wide recognition. The quality of the wine from La Rioja is so good that it has become a hallmark of this region. We invite you to visit it in September when the wine picking begins and when Logroño celebrates the Riojan Harvest Festival.

Festivals in the streets
The Harvest Festivals pay homage to San Mateo, patron saint of Logroño, and turn the city into the scene of several festive events, with wine as the main player. One of the most spectacular is the Treading of the Grapes: young people wearing traditional dress tread the freshly picked grapes to get the first grape juice of the season, which they then offer to the Virgen de la Valvanera. Music concerts for all ears, a bullfighting festival, an international fireworks contest, aerial dance shows at night time and public tastings complete the programme of the Harvest Festivals.

Learn about wine
We suggest that you discover the unforgettable La Rioja, which revolves around its wine, on your visit. To visit this region is to go deep into the wine-producing culture, and a good way to do so is by visiting the Vivanco Dynasty Museum of Wine Culture. There you can discover many interesting facts about the wines of La Rioja and learn about the entire cultivation and creation process. To experience the practical side of what you saw in the museum, how about a tour through the vineyards of La Rioja? Both on the official tourism webpage of La Rijoa and at the regional tourism offices, you will find information about the many companies that organise these tours, and that also offer you the possibility to do so on bicycle, on horseback, from a canoe or even in a hot-air balloon. The experience will be fascinating. Visiting the wineries, seeing the entire wine creation process and participating in some of the many frequent wine tasting courses will make your trip an unforgettable experience: a trip to the La Rioja wine route. Have you seen how much there is to do in La Rioja? You will definitely need a few days, so smile, because you can stay in a winery or in rural houses and hotels with eco-tourism programmes that have something for everyone. Even the little ones will enjoy themselves when they participate in the treading of grapes. Have you started to plan your escape to La Rioja this autumn yet?
