GR 41: Cordel de las Buervas

This path sets out from the Portuguese locality of Barrancos and crosses the northern Sierra of Huelva from Northeast to Southeast and enters the province of Seville to reach the city of Seville itself.

A large part of the the path runs within the Natural Park of La Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche, on the western side of Sierra Morena. The dominant vegetation in this area is the holm oak grove, the main element of the landscape.There are also cork oaks, basically in the shady spots and the watercourses.
The 88 km. of the path in the province of Huelva pass through the muncipalities of Encinasola, Cumbres de San Bartolomé, La Nava, Valdelarco, Cortelazor, Aracena, Corteconcepción and Zufre. Areas of greatest interest include the banks of the River Múrtigas and the Aracena and Zufre reservoirs. This latter locality is notable for its urban planning of areas with narrow winding streets remeniscent of their Arabic origin and houses built between the 16th and 19th century.
The Sevillian part of this path covers 66 km. through the municipalities of El Castillo de las Guardas, a lovely locality on the sierra,Gerena, Olivares, Salteras, Valencina de la Concepción, Camas and Seville.
The landscape with a few oak trees during the first half contrasts with that of the flat stretch of farmland on the last stretch.
There are many farms with wild livestock, fighting bulls that can be seen in the surroundings of Cortijo de la Calera, a beautiful building turned into rural accommodation.
Along the path, the GR 41 has three variants, all in the province of Huelva. The GR 41.1 is a circular path that, from the main path, reaches Cerro Verdugo, next to the Barranco de la Papúa ravine before dropping down through Majada Nueva and the onto the main path.The 41.2 splits off from the main path in Zufre and covers beautiful landscapes close to the sierras of El Zorrero and Magallanes. Lastly, the GR 41.3, with a length of 48 km, also splits off from the main path in Zufre and runs through the towns of Higuera, Jabuguillo, Aracena, Los Marines, Fuenteheridos, Galaroza and Las Murtiguillas.
