Monastery of the Order of Los Jerónimos
It was founded in the 15th century. The emperor Charles V spent his final years there. It has two cloisters - a Gothic one and a Renaissance one.
Yuste Monastery originates from a small hermitage, that grew in size thanks to some land it was given in the 15th century. The monastery was founded by a group of monks in 1408. Its international fame derives from the fact that, from 1557, the emperor Carlos V spent his final years there, after passing the crown to his son Philip II. An austere palace was built for him in the southern part of the convent. It has a notable Gothic church, with an altarpiece by Juan de Herrera and a carved Gothic choir stall.
