Getaria is located on the coast of Guipuzcoa. It is a gorgeous fishing town, and the birthplace of distinguished figures, such as Juan Sebastián Elcano and Cristóbal Balenciaga.

Getaria is located 30 kilometres west of San Sebastián. During the Middle Ages, and later also, when harpoons were still thrown by hand, the people from this village were whale hunters, as the local coat of arms (a whale with a harpoon stuck on its back) depicts. A walk through this village is a very attractive choice, taking us by medieval houses, the port, and the boulevard that leads to the hermitage of San Antón. Another place of great cultural interest is the Gothic church of San Salvador, built in the 15th century. It has great historic relevance, since it was there where they held the 1397 General Assembly that declared Guipuzcoa a province.

The port of Getaria has the ideal infrastructure to be both a fishing port and a marina. "The Getaria mouse" is a small peninsula that ends at mount San Antón, which received this name because of the peculiar shape it is in. The town is connected to this "mouse" through a dock, which is really the fishing port's wharf. A narrow road leads up to the top of mount San Antón, which offers a magnificent view of the sea and the mountains.

However, if anything, Getaria is known for its Txakolí (a Basque wine) of unbeatable quality, which gave rise to the Designation of Origin-Getariako Txakolina.
